I like pocket schedules of local teams, either professional or collegiate. Living in the Knoxville area I have the opportunity to obtain both. Nothing spectacular about this one. Dates and opponents Rather bland photo of Neyland Stadium and fans. I'll keep it.

UT Basketball Pocket Schedules
A few weeks ago a friend of mine invited me to a UT Vols basketball game. The men's team has been up and down. Seems like they start each game rather well and then can't finish. I enjoy watching them but don't know enough about the game or the program to have an informed opinion.
But I do know free pocket skeds when I see them.
Donnie Tyndall looking large. Well, he looks that way in real life.
Forward Armani Moore. Currently UT's top rebounder and second leading scorer.
Just watched the Lady Vols on the SECNetwork finish off UGA in the SEC Tourney. Isabelle Harrison leads the team in average points per game at 12.2. Not shabby.
I do enjoy March Madness. Not for the brackets so much but for some good basketball.

Indians vs. Yankees - July 9, 2014
A few weeks ago I took a trip north to Ohio to catch two MLB games. The first stop was in Cleveland. We arrived with a few hours to spare and since some of the guys had never been to Cleveland we walked towards the lake and found ourselves at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
After a quick tour of their gift shop we headed back to Progressive Field where we were met by an imposing Bob Feller.
I was told by Jack to visit Heritage Park.
It is inside the park just past the outfield. Some nice monuments and plaques of former players.
Several important players have a tile on a wall. Guys like Orel Hershiser who helped the Indians get to the World Series in 1995 and 1997.
Others have a plaque.
We purchased e-tickets. Which is convenient and a lousy keepsake. Their Fan Assistance people were great and gave us real tickets (although not our seats) so we could toss them in a drawer later.
Can't tell the players without a program.
Can't tell when the games will be played without a pocket schedule. Well, sure you can, but these are nice.
Can't tell when the games are for the Indians' Class A affiliate without a pocket schedule.
Magnets. I like magnets. They were selling these at kiosks around the concourse. A couple of bucks. I don't know. I found this one on the ground.
Alyssa Boggs sang the National Anthem and did a very nice job with it. She was in the concourse signing her baseball card.
Yes, I asked for the selfie opportunity.
One of the things that I like about ballparks is their uniqueness. I like to look at architecture, both large and small. The design of this seat side caught my eye.
The game went 14 innings.
When a game goes 14 innings one starts figuring out what all those other options on one's phone camera can do.
The Yankees finally won in the 14th, 5-4. Here's the boxscore. Jeter got a couple of hits. Ichiro struck out three times. Teixeira hit two home runs. It was good baseball.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll recap the second game of the trip.

2014 Tennessee Smokies Pocket Schedule
After church on Sunday I stopped by our local Pilot store to pick up Icees for Caroline and myself. The new pocket schedules for the Tennessee Smokies were out. I grabbed a small handful. I've already sent one out to a fellow blogger. If you'd like one, let me know.

1988 Knoxville Blue Jays sked
The 1988 Knoxville Blue Jays finished the season with a 75-69 record. They had 23 players on that team that eventually made it to the majors.

Schedule Changes
At a recent meeting of the East Tennessee Chapter of SABR, one of the members, Lucas Hobbs, offered up some pocket schedules. Lucas is on the board of directors for the Bristol Sox, an Advanced Rookie League affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, playing in the Appalachian League. Technically Lucas is one of the vice presidents of the board of directors for Bristol Baseball, Inc., a non-profit corporation dedicated to keeping professional baseball alive in Bristol, Virginia-Tennessee.
On the way home from the meeting I found this Tennessee Smokies schedule at one of our local grocery stores.
I've applied for my media credentials from the Smokies and I'll be attending the Saturday night game against the Montgomery Biscuits.

I'm back
The family and I arrived home late last night from our trek to southwestern Indiana. We went to see friends and family and for my wife's job. She's the worship director at our church and she's supposed to visit other churches to see how they 'do' stuff and what we can learn from them.
I had a bit of time so I sought out a card shop. Kam's OTW Cards is in Evansville. I'm working on a post about the shop so I'll leave the shop talk until later.
I was able to pick up a pocket schedule for the Evansville Icemen, a member of the ECHL. Kam's is the official puck sponsor for the Icemen, so the pucks have a baseball on them.
Yes, I picked up some cards. I'll show them in the future. I'm still doing laundry and trying to catch up on my sleep. Leave me alone.

Tennessee Football 2012 Pocket Schedule
Trying to find my own schedule once again, I'll start with an oldie, but goodie. Well, it isn't old, and I've seen better. This seems like an easier game schedule. I'd like to see the Vols go 8-4 this season, but I'd put them more on a 6-6 level. Maybe I could hope for a 7-5 season.

A new game in town
At the bank inside my local grocery store had these new schedules out. I grabbed a small handful.
There has been arena football in Knoxville off and on for many years. We had the Tennessee ThunderCats in 2001 and 2002. They changed their name to the Tennessee Riverhawks for the 2003 season. We've even had professional women's football here. The Knoxville Tornadoes of the NWFA.
The NightHawks are off to a rough start this season, going 0-3.

2012 Smokies sked
Today was the Smokies Family Fun Fest at Knoxville Center (mall) today. I was out in that area so I dropped by. No players, but I did make some contacts with front office type people and picked up some pocket schedules.
I was also able to get some quick photos of the Smokies' mascots, Diamond and Slugger.
Can't wait to get out to the ball park.

Women's Basketball Hall of Fame
I was out running some errands with Caroline a week and a half ago. The University of Tennessee men's team was hosting Kentucky. We drove by Thompson Boling Arena in the final minutes. UT lost.
Then we tooled a few miles away to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
We didn't have time to take the tour. I did pick up some info on their admission fees and hours. And a BOGO coupon / Lady Vols schedule.
The Lady Vols have had a tough season so far. I think that they're 14-5 right now, with a low scoring loss to Notre Dame earlier this week. On a positive note, the recent outpouring of love and support for Pat Summitt from the SEC has been unbelievable.
I Back Pat. How about you?

Rubbing Salt Into The Wound
Yesterday my father gave me this 2011-2012 University of Kentucky basketball schedule. He did not yet know about me losing the UT-UK wager with my friend.
I'm a good sport. I can post this without wincing.

Scheduling Issues
I've been a bit of a slacker. I haven't been consistent in my blogging. Well, I guess I have. Consistently not blogging.
I'll show some schedules of two local teams.
So, somewhere along the way, you might have asked yourself, w"Why hasn't Mark been blogging lately?" I could say that I just haven't felt it, that I've been too busy, that I'm easily distracted by small, shiny objects. All of these, and more, would be true.
What I have been doing is attending my son's high school football games. He plays starting Center and starting DL for The King's Academy Lions. Edison is #51.
The team travels to Chattanooga on Friday to play the Riverside Christian from Fayetteville, TN, at a neutral site. That neutral site just happens to be Finley Stadium, home of the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga Mocs. TKA started out the season playing at Neyland Stadium, home of the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Finley is about one fifth the seating capacity of Neyland. Both are much larger than the field at TKA. Here are some screen shots from Google Maps.
In other news, we had a very nice time at the Buddy Walk a week and a half ago.
And I've been having fun doing some old timey research. I'm looking into the 1915-1917 Tri-Copper League in Arizona. I've also been gathering data and photos of early baseball at Johnson Bible College and some of their opponents. If you visit my Old Knoxville Baseball blog you'll see that I haven't been blogging on a regular basis over there.
I've been updating a few entries at the SABR Encyclopedia of Baseball, or SABRpedia as it is known.
I'm so far behind on reading card blogs that I haven't commented on a post that Night Owl did last month that specifically mentioned me. I have cards to scan and post that came in trades. I've got a few packages assembled to send out, but haven't made it to the post office. I have emails from fellow bloggers that I need to answer. I hang my head in shame.
I haven't even made any World Series predictions. I'll take care of that now. I'd like to see the Cards win it in 7. Generally I'm a National League guy. I like Pujols. I need to start reading his biography. It is sitting next to my bed. Since my wife gave it to me for Father's Day I've read several others. Sorry dear. See, I've resorted to communicating with her via this blog. I don't think that she even reads this blog anymore.
I'll try to do better. Maybe the World Series will get me back in the groove. Maybe I'll read a time management book and deal with my scheduling issues. Maybe not.
