1992 Legends of Indy

I picked up five packs of 1992 Legends of Indy racing card packs from Listia this last week. For those keeping score, I used 300 points, delivered.

There are 100 cards in this set.  A nice mix of modern (at the time) racers and older cars and drivers.

Auto racing is more than going fast and turning left.  Some of the innovations they use on the track end up in our cards.  Good thing that the Dihedral Wings didn't catch on.  Same thing with the Fiero.

1993 UD Virtual Cards - AL East

Two years ago or so I shared one of these discs. Disc number 5, the NL Central. Two nights ago I came across another few discs.  So I'm sharing the disc 3, the AL East.  Ah, 1993.

Broder Cards - Mark Grace

This is another binder flipping post. I have no idea how to categorize or label these cards. They're what is known as Broder cards.

Again, their appearance here means that racing cards have been staved off for another day.  My guess, though, is that they will raise their ugly heads before the weekend is over.

Don't forget to weigh in on the Gint-A-Cuffs IV chumming.  Stir the pot before the pot stirs you.

Two Cards

I was flipping through a binder this morning and came across these two cards. Nothing special. They don't tie in together. No connection. Just something to show. Again, it was this or racing cards. I do like the zombie look of Locker.
1970 Topps
Bob Locker (card 249)

Magic Mets? I don't look at these guys and say, "Magic Mets" but they were an impressive group and did win the World Series in 1986. I'll give them that.  How about the "Really good, better than we thought they'd do and only look slightly dorky Mets"?  I do like the sequential number series in the final 60 percent of the players.  That's got to count for something.  Maybe it is one of those "Magic Square Mets" cards.

Front or Back?

I was looking through a pack of 1991 Upper Deck a few weeks back. UD was just a few years into their reign as the premier card producer of the junk wax era. They weren't junk wax. At that time they were praised for putting quality photography on cards.   But was the best photo always put on the front of the card?

Today we'll be playing "Front or Back?"

1991 Upper Deck
Edgar Martinez (card # 574)
I'd have to go with Back on Edgar.  How many times have you seen a third baseman just waiting for that hit that might come his way?

1991 Upper Deck
John Shelby (card # 201)
The Back, again.  In the on-deck circle?  Probably during batting practice.

1991 Upper Deck
Jose Lind (card # 258)
Back.  Definitely the back.  Action on the front, but ACTION on the back.

1991 Upper Deck
Keith Miller (card # 196)
I'll have to with the Back.  Nice profile on the front, but the back shows that something has happened.

1991 Upper Deck
Kenny Rogers (card # 606)
Love his chicken.  And his stirring ballads.  Back wins.

1991 Upper Deck
Todd Burns (card # 405)
Todd Burns?  Front!  How can he walk with those legs askew?

That's all I've got.  Hey, at least I scanned some baseball cards.  It was almost a set of racing cards, what with the Sprint All-Star Race Saturday night.  You're welcome.

More Bill Wade Cards

These two Bill Wade cards came from ebay. Less than a dollar a piece, delivered. And I had some ebay bucks, so final price per card was about 55 cents.
