Happy St. Patrick's Day

According to Baseball-Reference.com, there have only been 43 ball players to play in the big leagues that were born in Ireland.

The last one to play was Joe Cleary, who played one game in 1945. Andy Leonard was the first. He debuted May 5, 1871.

To celebrate, here's five players born in Ireland. And one in New Jersey. And a nice Irish Ballad by Tom Lehrer.

Patsy Donovan, Boston Red Sox manager, 1911

Tom Needham, Chicago Cubs

Jimmy Walsh, Philadelphia Athletics, 1913

Jimmy Archer, Chicago Cubs

Paddy O'Connor & Dots Miller, St. Louis Cardinals, 1914
(Dots was born in New Jersey)
