More Moe

The ladies of Dinged Corners have posted a few times (The Moe Lowdown, part 1 and An interview with two daughters of baseball) about Moe Drabowsky.

Always liking a good story, I followed up by hitting Google Books and searching for Moe. Up came a Baseball Digest from 1969.

Leafing through the rest of this issue I found an ad for a complete set of 1969 Topps baseball for just $13.95. The March, 2009 issue of Tuff Stuff has it listed at $2,500. Sure, it is a guide and all, but, oh for a time machine.

I also found a nice article in the July, 1968 issue of Baseball Digest regarding Moe's cool negotiating skills.

And another one, this time from the October, 1981 issue of Baseball Digest.

  1. Maybe the Super Nonproductive Out can be the latest new stat! Moe was a sabermatrician before his time!

  2. What awesome finds! I love reading old magazines! My father always swore that he didn't like baseball as a kid (or ever) but his older brother cleaned out the attic and found magazines from the 40's with my Dad's name written on them. I looked myself in a room and read every page over a weekend, it was awesome! Moe rocks.
