Jack Armstrong, baseball guy

The ladies over at Dinged Corners had a contest recently. One of the questions was in dispute. It concerned Jack Armstrong. No, not this one...
1993 Topps Gold #434 - Jack Armstrong

This one...
This is a 1935 Wheaties cereal box card, Series 1. There are 26 'cards' in this unnumbered set. Two of them are pitchman, Jack Armstrong. No, not a ball hurler, the fictional character. Others in the set include Dizzy Dean, Lefty Grove, Pepper Martin and Lou Gehrig.
More info on these cards can be found at Old Cardboard, "Your Information Resource for Vintage Baseball Cards."

  1. On Wednesday nights I listen to a radio show at work that plays old radio serials from the 30's and 40's. Superman, Fibber McGee and Molly, Inner Sanctum, that kind of stuff. Recently they've been playing this one called Jack Armstrong! The Aaaaaaaaaaall American Boy! Now every time I see a Jack Armstrong card, I hear that radio announcer in my head. Bonus fun: the show was sponsored by Wheaties. They played an ad for Wheaties during one of the episodes that promoted these cards on the back of the box.
